Note from our PM today

Exciting things are ahead!  Side note...not sure why they have to do the measuring for the granite when they all are the same in the Rome model, better safe than sorry I suppose.  Still exciting!

"Drywall point up today, 2nd paint tomorrow, granite measurements tomorrow, siding should finish up tomorrow/Wednesday, stone starts on Wednesday, ceramic should be going in at the end of the week."

We have siding!

That is what I screamed as we passed by the house today.   Neither of us were expecting siding, but there it was as we drove past the street and saw the side of the house in the distance.  I was clapping I was so excited.

Lots of fun surprises during today's visit!

The back of the house was completely finished, love the color!

The one side of the house has siding completed, the other side (pictured) is almost finished except for the very top of the house where the attic is.  They still have to start the front of the house.

Kitchen cabinets! I think I might have done a happy dance when I saw this.  I love them so much!

The garage still holds some goodies, who knew door knobs could be so exciting?

Banisters and railings!!

Master Bath vanity!  I might have gasped when I saw this, too.

Hall Bath vanity.

Railings at the top of the stairs.

All the doors have been installed as well (well all except one).  Sad face though because this means we can't
change the swing of the ones in the laundry and master bath.  Oh well.

I didn't want to leave today.  It really felt like home; walls are finished, doors are up and I wanted to stay.  August can't come soon enough!

Storms

We had some pretty bad weather come through our area this week and while we weren't getting hit badly at our current "home", I looked at the radar where our house is being built and it was getting SLAMMED.

My husband took a trip out to the house the next day to check on progress.  Notice anything wrong?

Ahhh!
So, needless to say, our PM was notified.  I'm starting to get a little worried about how hard the storms hit in that area.  We have nothing to block us from storms coming in from the west.  It's all flat in front of the house so while it's great that nothing is built in front of us, it's bad because we have nothing to shield the wind from hitting us full force.  Sigh.

Oh, and this was noticed as well, water coming in from the side of the house onto the floor in our master bedroom sitting area.  Grreeeeat.

I am happy that we are getting these storms before the house is finished though, at least we can see where the weak spots are before the siding goes up.  It will all be fixed and everything will be fine, it's just frustrating to see what we may have to deal with in the future with bad storms.

More to come tomorrow or next week.   They have delivered the siding (yay!!) which you can see in the first pic.  So, that should start going up soon and I can't WAIT!

Drywall is up!

We had heard from our new neighbor that the guys were there bright and early on Saturday morning installing drywall.  The same neighbors were having a party that afternoon and when we got there we took a peek at the house.  We couldn't believe it.  Drywall was up everywhere!  We didn't spend much time in the house yesterday since the main reason for being over there was for the party.  Loving that we are already so friendly with them!

Onto the visit today...

Today we headed back out to the house to spend some more time, take pictures and look at measurements, mostly for when we build a deck and patio.  I had planned on a picnic in the house for Father's Day but of course it was 90 degrees today.  Oh well, maybe we'll do it some other time before the house is completed.

Moving on to pics.  Thought it would be fun to do some before and afters.

As we were getting ready to leave I started to hear a bird singing.  It was so incredibly loud I actually thought it was in the house.  I was so intrigued by it that I started looking around, I went to the morning room to look outside and there it was, a red cardinal.   I instantly teared up.  They say that when you see a cardinal it is a visitor from heaven.  The amount of warmth in my heart from that moment will stay with me for a long time.

Happy Father's Day!

Insulation is done!

We now have all of our extra insulation completed.  I already love that our house will be a little quieter in certain areas.

Not the best pic but this is the laundry room...will be nice and quiet in case I ever have to run a dryer
load overnight after forgetting something in the washer..not that I've ever done that before :)

The entire ceiling in the family room is now insulated.  Should keep things quiet if anyone goes to sleep early
(again, not that I ever do that!)

Above the kitchen, where all the large pipes for the upstairs toilets and shower/tubs run through.
This will help from hearing flushing sounds downstairs.

Next step!  Drywall is all set up and ready to go!
Drywall is scheduled to go up either tomorrow or Monday.  I cannot wait to see the house with actual walls!

Pre-Drywall Meeting

We had our pre-drywall meeting today, bright and early at 8am!

My shift at work starts at 9:30am so we had to do this quickly and our PM made it happen and finished right on time for me to race to work.

Everything went well, we have been to the house so many times so our PM didn't have to go through the basics.  We walked every room of the house and had all of our questions answered, which weren't many to begin with.  Little things like asking about the dishwasher being discontinued and "hey, what's that hole in the ceiling?"

Our awesome PM and my husband in the master bedroom.

As we were finishing up, our contractor who will be installing the extra insulation in the house showed up, perfect timing.  We have a small window of time to get anything else we want between the studs before drywall goes up so the extra insulation went up today.

Lots of extra insulation to make this house nice and quiet!

The best part of today, though, was that we found out our closing date!

August 2nd!

It's so exciting to have a countdown now!  I can't believe how close that date is.  Looking forward to finally having a home again!

quick post

We went out to see the house last night after I finished work because we wanted to make note of light leaks before the drywall goes up.  There were a bunch that we want to let our PM know about so before the sun set we got out there.

We have been to the house at various times during the day but this time we got to see the sun setting from inside the house, and I can already tell that the loft will be my favorite.  What you see out the window is just gorgeous.  And homes won't be built in front there so this is our forever view.

The front of the house was much different yesterday than the day before when we were out there.  They had to dig in front of the house to do the water line, so we have a huge mound of dirt on our driveway now.

Before we left, we found our neighbors outside and chatted for a bit.  I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the sunset was and snapped a few pics.  I love that this is what we will see from our front yard.  Can't wait to move in!

Filling the house with love

Today was a fun day at the house.  Our friends (who are building their own house just a few miles down the road) came with us to check things out.  We brought crayons so the kids could draw in the house before the drywall goes up.  Lots of laughter in there today!

Our plan today was to write bible verses in certain rooms of the house.  I saw this on pinterest and fell in love.  I spent a while trying to find the best ones that fit for us and wrote something in the family room, kitchen, entryway, master bedroom and our daughter's bedroom.  I love that these words will be with us always.

One of two verses in our daughter's room.

Right next to the front door.
We traced our hands on the top step :)

We were almost ready to leave when my husband showed me his phone and had found a verse that he loved.  So we picked a perfect spot for it.  Had to borrow our new neighbors' ladder but we made it work!   After I wrote it I said it outloud and it made both of us very emotional.  I will take that as a good sign...the perfect verse in a perfect place.

Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.
For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name be there forever. My eyes
and my heart will be there for all time. Chronicles 7:15-16

In other news, this week is going to be a busy one for the house.

Monday - Husband is meeting with wiring company to go over where we want everything (will also be installed that day, too)
Tuesday - Our independant inspector will be checking the house out to see what Ryan's inspector may have missed (our PM has already added a day to the schedule to fix what he might find)
Wednesday - extra insulation might begin to be installed by husband
Thursday - Pre-drywall meeting!  (also might be extra insulation day)
Friday - Drywall goes up!

The garage today looked ready to go for other next steps.....doors, baulsters, vanity, banisters, even cabinets were seen inside there today.  So exciting!

We have a garage (door)!

I love the style of the garage door for our neighborhood.  It makes me so happy to see this small detail on the house.

We had a decent wind running through the area today and you can kind of see in this photo that we have a bunch of shingles missing from the very top of the roof.  Um, not cool.  The wind was strong but not THAT strong.  I feel like there's no way those shingles should have come off today.  More to talk to the PM about...more to come in a few days :)

All by myself

A lot has been done since the last time I posted.  I feel like if I don't post every day I get behind and then overwhelmed so I will give the short version and skip 3 days of photos and only show photos from yesterday's visit :)

I was able to see the house on my own!  It was nice to soak it all in by myself in my own time but then it started to feel a little like that scene from What About Bob?  "THERE'S NOBODY HERE!" and I started to freak out a bit. So the visit was short, the sun was setting and it was beginning to rain.

Anyway, this was the first visit where I started noticing things that need to be fixed.  Not a ton of stuff but I now have some things I want to talk to the PM about. I knew this moment would come, no house is perfect as it's being built.

This is the concrete wall coming out of the basement.  I'm sure they will fix this but I definitely want to address
this awful mess.

It's driving me crazy that the one square of concrete is angled downwards so much.  Also not
happy with the fact that the line isn't straight either.

Light coming through the wall in 2 spots.  There is another one in the house that I don't have a
picture of but these are #1 on my list to get taken care of.

Moving on to the good news, electrical seems to be done, plumbing too...and the laundry room is ready to go!

The electrical box in the garage.

Outdoor lighting and outlet are ready to go.

All outlets seem to be installed inside.

Recessed lighting is installed as well.

Plumbing for master bath and hall bath.

Laundry room!

So, all in all we are looking good.  Waiting to hear when our pre-drywall meeting will be...I know it has to be soon.  We need to find out because we will be installing some extra insulation ourselves and it would be nice to have a heads up!
