We have a garage (door)!

I love the style of the garage door for our neighborhood.  It makes me so happy to see this small detail on the house.

We had a decent wind running through the area today and you can kind of see in this photo that we have a bunch of shingles missing from the very top of the roof.  Um, not cool.  The wind was strong but not THAT strong.  I feel like there's no way those shingles should have come off today.  More to talk to the PM about...more to come in a few days :)

  1. Love the garage door, our community is doing the same one standard! I would be questioning those missing shingles for sure. One question - is the left window in the loft bump out different than the rest? It appears to be missing all of the grid-work of the others?

    1. We were told by our PM that we shouldn't even mention anything about the windows until everything is done. If something is wrong with a window they won't replace it until the very end because they don't want to have to do it twice. We have a broken window right now but we know they won't replace it until much later so we haven't even mentioned it. The replacement windows are already inside the house. But thanks for pointing it out :)

  2. TECHNICALLY you've had that garage since framing ;-)
I seriously love the look of that garage door! I wish we had paid more attention and gotten the elevation that included it, but I can easily make it look like that down the line with a little DIY.
It's crazy that we are almost neck-and-neck with building, but you've already got your front stoop poured and your door looks prettier than ours, haha! We go out to check on things today and I'm hoping to see a front porch!
And I didn't even notice the window til JFab said something.... make sure you get that checked out if it isn't supposed to be like that :-)

    1. Our garage hasn't been there since framing, it literally just went in this week. And we didn't get to pick it based on our elevation either, it's the standard one for the entire neighborhood no matter what elevation or model. It's nice to see them all the same :)

Don't be too jealous about that front stoop! I'm so upset about how angled that is. And we found out from our neighbors that they had to have theirs redone too because it was sloped too much. Grr!

I mentioned the windows above in the other comment, no worries, they always know when windows are messed up but don't replace them until the end to save on having to replace them multiple times if one breaks while the contractors are in there.

    2. Our PM told us the same about the windows. It's weird bc he said that more will probably break with drywall, as it tends to make them break. But we noticed that the one broken window we had in the front has been replaced. Even though he said it wouldn't be replaced til it was nearing the end.

    3. Ok I'm an idiot. I just realized my mistake with this post. I never said 'garage door' which is what I was really excited about. your comment about the garage always being there was indeed correct. I just didn't realize I miswrote the post. Haha. My brain is shot this week. Ignore my previous comment😉

That's why I made my original comment, I was teasing you :-)
And I hear ya about this week. It's been forever long to me, and it's not even Friday!!

  3. Good to know the window standards! We're woefully short on communication with our PM. I wouldn't have known that.

    1. I'm sorry that you don't have a more informative PM. Ours told us that at our pre-construction meeting but he's been good about communicating with us since then. We mostly have to reach out to him first but he always gets back to us quickly. Do you have a good SR? Maybe they can get your PM on the ball more.

  4. That is indeed a very handsome garage door. Did you pick it out yourself or did the builders recommend a specific one for you? I cannot wait until the time comes when I get to choose a garage door on my freshly built home also. It will be so exciting. Thank you so much for sharing.

  5. I am glad to hear your new garage door was installed. It may seem like a minor detail to others, but it makes a difference when it comes to building a home. I hope the contractors were able to replace the shingles on your roof, as I am sure they wanted to take care of it once they saw a bunch were missing.
